The MATRA programme, launched in 1994, is an initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands to support democratic transformation in Central and Eastern Europe. The main objective of the programme is to promote the establishment of pluralistic, democratic and constitutional societies. This is achieved by supporting a variety of projects that address important issues such as legislation, the rule of law, public administration and human rights.
