On 22 August 2019, the Centre of Policy and Legal Reform (CPLR), in cooperation with the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation (IKDIF), will hold a press conference in Kyiv on “Ukraine gained its independence 28 years ago. Where are we now? Where are we going?”

During the event, the experts will touch upon a number of issues based on the results of an opinion poll conducted on the occasion of the Independence Day of Ukraine by IKDIF. The poll was conducted at the request of CPLR in the framework of the EU-funded project “Strengthening the Role of Civil Society in Facilitating Democratic Reforms and Increasing Accountability, Responsibility, and Quality of Government”.

The following topics will be discussed:

  • Ukraine is 28 years old. How do Ukrainians view independence? Do they miss the Soviet Union?
  • How have we changed? What moves us forward and what hampers progress?
  • Economy: where are we now? Why are we lagging behind our western neighbors? How can we get ahead?
  • Politics: where are we now? How can we make responsible citizens out of Ukrainians?
  • European integration: where are we now? Are we slowing down? Are we getting together to move forward?
  • Ukraine after the election: challenges, opportunities, dangers.
